SUPPORT GHOST NET HARVESTING

Each year, ocean currents bring tonnes of ghost net into the Gulf of Carpentaria which then wash up on Numbulwar’s shores, harming marine life including turtles, fish and reef systems in the process. Ghost nets make up 30-50% of all ocean plastic and takes 600 years to break down, shedding micro-plastics the entire time.

Numbulwar Numburindi Arts partners with the Numbulwar Numburindi Rangers to retrieve ghosts nets from the beach and ocean to be cleaned, pulled apart and used to weave traditional Wulbung (baskets) and Yir (dillybags).

Support the continuation of ghost net harvesting in the region by donating below. Donations over $2 are tax deductible.
